Jaguar XE SVR

As some of you will already know a strange mule was spotted on the streets of Stuttgart, initially it was thought the mule was a BMW prototype of some kind, however upon further investigation it becomes clear that this mule is British.

The distinctive rear window of the XE mules is clear and present, more similarities present themselves in the tail lamps and exhaust pipes. But just which XE are we seeing here?

Some seem to think we're seeing an extremely early glimpse of the range topping SVR, compete with the full gamut of goodies, well one goodie, 5.0L V8 Supercharged. JLG Special Vehicle Operations will design and prep the car, rumor has it price tag will settle in the $100,000 (60,000) range.

I for one am not so convinced of the SVR rhetoric. For one, there are the semiotics of Jaguar performance vehicles. R and RS branded vehicles from the XK to the XF to the XJ all feature quad exhaust pipes and distinctive bodywork. Granted yes this is a mule, however we've seen Diesel mules running around with the single side exhaust exits which lends faith that when we do see an SVR mule it will feature the quad exits.

Second at $100K who is going to purchase the SVR? They would be inviting much unwanted competition into the discussion, for one, at $100K why not jump up to a Maserati Ghibli, or M5? In this case I think Jaguar needs to exercise some discretion and attempt to undercut the M3 and RS4.

Thirdly, the mule looks near identical to the early test mules we've already spied. We know Jaguar has been playing the cheeky marketing game in Germany and this could be an extension of that. Jaguar has been dressing up A4's 3 series and C-classes in camo around Germany which redirect people to the XE's website.

Is there going to be many aesthetic changes between the Jaguar XE and the Jaguar XE SVR? Anything that we can see from this mule?

Sharp observation on the marketing bit. Yes makes sense, the video title BMW 3 series ties in quite well with their camoed 3 series stunt. I would not be surprised if Jaguar themselves are the ones responsible for this video...

Just noticing this but there's a tow bar hanging out the rear of the XE, anyone notice that?

I think that is just so that they can move around the mule more easily.

more likely they have been testing the car towing a trailer to confirm to weight capacities and make sure the car behaves its self whilst attached to a trailer / caravan
