There's no shot the US is going to see the XE start below $30K. Its a thresh hold, once you go below it has a certain damage on the prestige of the brand, I don't think Jag is going for that...

That is true, they don't want to water the brand down but instead offer a product that still lives up to what the brand is about but still something more attainable than what they currently offer.

Can it really compete with the 3 series if it is more expensive than a 3 series? I understand the whole premium market aspect but how much more expensive can it be than a 3 series but yet still be competitive IF Jaguar wants to sell in high volumes?

Can the same comparison be made between the XF and the 5 series? What has stopped Jaguar's XF from selling numbers closer to that of the 5 series? Genuinely asking as I am not familiar with Jaguar's history in this segment.
I believe its mainly been production constraints. They just cannot physcally produce the same volume as BMW, which would then feed back into the higher price.

I had read somewhere here that a new facility has recently been completed that should remedy that problem..

You would be mislead if you simply converted the UK price to USD's. The conversion willlie to you 8 days of the week. Jaguar will not break the $30,000 barrier in the US. Below 30K you begin to be considered mainstream and basic...

So you are thinking that it is going to start a bit above $30k then? I am thinking somewhere around $33,000.
That seems to be the consensus, logically it works as well when you consider the cost of competitors.

A4: $35,500
3 Series: $32,750
C Class: $40,400

Of course there are nuances to the price discrepancies. Included kit is a major factor, the BMW for example is barren at that price point. If Jag can offer the proper mix of kit and price theres no reason for people to say no besides stereotypes and misguided loyalty ;)

That's what i was thinking.
By the looks of things it seems that Jaguar might have this come in around the mid $30k or even a bit higher.
