That seems to be the consensus, logically it works as well when you consider the cost of competitors.

A4: $35,500
3 Series: $32,750
C Class: $40,400

Of course there are nuances to the price discrepancies. Included kit is a major factor, the BMW for example is barren at that price point. If Jag can offer the proper mix of kit and price theres no reason for people to say no besides stereotypes and misguided loyalty ;)
Design on the new C-Class is going to make it hard to pass up on.

The one downside to it, which doesn't affect the C-Class is that it looks like a mini s-class. I was hoping the design on the s-class would for the most part remain exclusive to it. I think MB could have done a better job at making design from model to model have many more differences.

if it wasn't for you saying it's a C-Class...that rear end shot would of had me thinking it was an S-Class.

Jaguar is beginning to publish information about how they're going to release the XE in the US and, so far, it doesn't sound very promising (at least to me).

The first US models will only be offered with all wheel drive and, if I'm reading correctly, only have a choice between the 340HP V6 or the 254HP Turbo-diesel engine. It does say rear wheel drive versions will follow but it doesn't say when.

If they plan on pricing to be similar to the BMW 3 series, these first cars will compete against the 335xi which starts at almost $52K US. For that type of money, there are much better values out there if you don't really need AWD or 340HP.

I'm just hoping the papers got it wrong and we'll be able to buy models with the I4 engines as well. That would put it up against the 328xi which has a slightly more reasonable MSRP of 44K. That's still more than I was hoping.

It looks like if you want a price in the mid 30s, you'll have to wait *another* year or two for the cheaper models and for dealers to start offering steep discounts.

Unfortunately, this does seem to be the case, and the explanation is straight forward. The higher trim levels offer higher profit margins, so Jaguar is leading with those models to encourage the early purchasers to pad their profits. It's understandable, but disappointing from the consumer perspective.
