I would agree with the comment that the XE S was not designed to be a full time 4-5 passenger vehicle. I purchased a 2018 XE S 380 HP for the performance, handling and such a fun spirited drive. I rarely have anyone in the back seat for any length of time short trips at best. I had tested the XF before purchasing the XE just to be sure I would be comfortable with a smaller vehicle. Obviously I was the profile for this vehicle. Also the fuel economy has surpassed my expectations.
