Found this spy shot of the Jaguar XE that hasn't been posted here yet. it gives a pretty good idea of what the shape of the rear of the XE will be.

It looks like it might be a bit similar to the XF, but I don't think that the XE will have that silver bar across the back. I can see what you mean about the back being a tad boring perhaps. Hopefully something a bit more exciting is hiding under that camo.
