If we're going by Jaguar convention the XE should have its very own R model sometime after launch. Now going off Jaguars typical R playbook, they stiffen the suspension, sharpen the handling and stuff a meaty engine in there.

This is where the conversation gets interesting, just which engine will be used in the XE-R? Well for one we know that the iQ platform has been designed for additional uses. We know the engine bay will definitely take their 3.0L V6 used across the lineup, we also know that Jaguar has intentions of using the iQ architecture for the upcoming CX-17 SUV and a longer XF saloon. We also know that the CX-17 should be expecting Jaguars 5.0L V8 somewhere in its trim levels, we definitely know that the XF makes use of the 5.0L V8 already.

So with that in mind there are several options we can speculate on for an XE-R. For one the 3.0L V6 Supercharged from F-Type, XJ and XF will fit. with the 3.0L SC you would be looking at 375 hp and 339 lb-ft of torque. If Jaguar goes bonkers and decides to shoehorn the 5.0L V8 Supercharged under the hood of XE-R you could expect 500-540 hp and 460-500 lb-ft of twist.

The Final option is of course something we have not seen yet. Jaguar is on record saying that their new range of Ingenium 2.0L 4 cylinder engines are capable of 400 hp...

What do you think?
