After talking with 3 dealers it's pretty much confirmed that I'll need to order my XE. I'm going to get the XE Prestige with the 2.0 diesel with all the bells and whistles. MY wife prefers the Caesium Blue, which looks good, but I'm really thinking that the BRG would be great. Since she'll be driving it most of the time it's her call on color. But either color with the engine and options that we're looking for put it on the "order the car" list. I'm ready to pull the trigger, but I have a friend who is tight with a Jaguar dealer in Southern California and he's suggested I wait and let him check with his friend to see if he can get me a price break. Hopefully it won't be a lengthy wait as I'd really like to get the car before Christmas. I test drove the XE diesel last week and was very impressed and tomorrow I'm having my wife test drive it and check out that features that are important to her. I want her to like it as much as I like my Jetta Sportwagen TDI.

Any others want to chime in on this discussion? As I am beginning my search and want a similar car, I would hate to have to order a car and be at the mercy of a dealership in terms of price. VW is buying my car back in November and I will need to pick something up soon after. I hear that ordering now gets you a car in late December.

Ted, you're letting them have your VW TDI? I have a 2015 Sportswagen Tdi and they will have to pry it out of my cold, dead fingers. I'm trading in our Mercedes E350 and keeping my little VW. I think they're going to give me about $8,000 even though I'm keeping my VW.

Stan, it's a Jetta and they're giving me 19K for it. I paid 27k four and a half years ago and it has 83k miles. I am looking forward to cutting 1 sec off 0-60, Meridian stereo, leather and some cool amenities. It's a slam dunk for me.

Dave, where are you located, and what dealer are you working with? I ordered my XE Prestige two weeks ago and they said it will be March before it arrives here. I think they're blowing smoke up my a$$. The deal I've signed is that P'll get the car for $2,000 below the MSRP sticker, which I think is a great deal.

I would start by questioning how new that sales person or what ever other crazy factors might be at play.
You can always try inquiring at another jaguar dealer to see what they say.

Kingpin, I tried that and what I've found is dealers aren't willing to comment on the practices of other dealers. I tried talking with a salesman who said that if I ordered to car through him I would have it by Christmas (he said that two weeks before I ordered the car from someone else). He talked around the issue and wouldn't address the difference, so I don't know if he was exaggerating when he said that he'd have it by Christmas, or if the dealer I ordered it from is just being slow or not pushing hard enough.

But since Dave has been promised his order in about two months I have to wonder why mine is taking 5 months. There is usually a reason for this much of a difference.

Dealers typically don't or can't comment on other dealers because they apparently have no access to their information, not even what cars they have on their lots in inventory. But that is a vast difference in delivery time which is extremely fishy. You can get your deposit back though ?

Edge, I don't think I could get my deposit back now, because the car has been ordered. I have a signed copy of the order (which was sent to me after my last post on this forum). And this dealer is still by far the best price on the order, so I guess I'll just live with the proposed delivery date and push the dealer a little every now and then to make sure that they are pushing for the earliest delivery.

This is the first new car that I've ordered (I've always taken what was available or what I could get through dealer trades), so I guess I'll just have to be patient.

Daniel, for a number or reasons I elected to lease the car rather than purchase it. My agreement with the dealer was that I would get the car for $2,000 less than MSRP, which is the price that they used to work the number on the lease.
