I'm thinking in getting the Head Up display option, but I've read mixed reviews about it.
Does anyone know if there is a button to switch the Head Up off and on on the XE ?

I'm not completely sure but there should be an option do to that quite easily.
If not you might have to resort to yanking the fuse, that's if there's a fuse for it alone.

I definitely think you can turn it off and on. It would be a mistake to not have that option. I mean there will definitely be variance in owners as to whether people want to HUD on or off.

it's that type of tech where there should be a way to go about this
worst case scenario is that you have to take it to the dealer.

yape, I believe there is an option button to temporarily disable it
and some HUD comes with OBD cable which can be disables simply by unplug the interface

Talked to the dealer, he assured me that there is a button. I don't want to go to the dealer each time I want to enable or disable it

Anyway, XE is ordered, with HUD, so I'll know for sure in about 5 months !

Ever? or just rarely? Would you say its a waste of money? What don't you like about it?

After trying it a little bit I do not like it so I never use it even though it can be aimed or moved to different spots on the windshield.
It reminds of an annoying glare or mark on the windshield that messes with my OCD with preferring clean unobstructed glass.

Now that the manuals are online, it's clear: there is no separate button, enabling and disabling is an option in the multimedia screen

I like the heads up displays that don't project directly onto the wind shield but instead have a little glass thing that comes out of the dash board to display the information. Like this.

I actually like the ones that project to the windshield, it creates a cleaner look but at the same time it's expensive.

Had a BMW E60 M5 with head up projected directly to the windshield and loved it, 10 years later, I still do till this day.

does anybody have a reliable photo or image of how big the HUD is on your windscreen? How much of your road view is 'blurred' by the HUD? And can you configure the size of it too? Or is it just an on/off option?

Part of me thinks its kind of silly to display the speed on the winds shield when you can just look down at the speedometer. I have seen concepts for the navigation systems and that seems like it could be more worthwhile. Something like this.
