Road and Track recently interviewed JLR's Special Vehicle operations Division boss John Edwards, and we learnt that there won't be any more R-S or R-S GT models moving forward. Buyers had been confused by these monickers which sat on top of the sporty 'R' models.

SVR models will be the ultimate version of each vehicle. There won't be plus' versions, like how Mercedes-AMG has Black Series for example. These models will be built on the assembly line alongside standard cars, and they will be sold for several years instead of being limited production models.

So now the progression of JLR models should go from S to R and then to SVR.

I like how "SVR" sounds, has a nice ring to it. "Jaguar F-Type SVR" ...yeahhhh it sounds like an F-Type up to some serious business, should have the AMG's and M's a bit scared.

Scared? I'm not sure. But they definitely will have their eye on SVR models. I do think that his naming scheme is a bit easier to understand so it is a good move of JLR's part.

I was kidding.
Maybe Cadillac will be but AMG and M have been in this long enough, it's their markets and they continue to push to stay on top. It's not going to be easy for other brands to dethrone them.

I think that Jaguar has a better chance of competing against AMG and M than Cadillac does. Cadillac may be seen as a good luxury company, but it doesn't seem like as much of a performance vehicle company.

the CTS-V they recently released is a serious machine, enough to be compared to a comparable BMW or MB.
