So the latest in a short list of compact Jaguars. The First would of been the Mark I from 1959 which then saw a long hiatus before a new small Jaguar took up the mantle in 2001, that would be the X-Type. Since the X-Type was killed in 2009 Jaguar has been without a small saloon to compete with the 3er, C class and A4.

Lets hope the XE fairs better than the X-Type did...

I see the berating of the X-Type is on here too, the X-Type, was and is still currently the best selling Jaguar EVER, it offered the man on the street the chance to have some luxury along with a decent car, and they were decent.

People go on about it being a Mondeo, well, the Jag was supposed to be released BEFORE the Mondeo, so for that fact it has been given a very unwarrented reputation, and if it is that bad, why is the Mondeo lauded as the best Mondeo to date, it had the same engines, floor pan and chassis set up, the electrics were the same, the only difference was the external panels and interior, and the interior was always better than the Mondeo.

So you cant have you cake and eat it, the looks of the Jag were subjective, but it did win a number of awards, and even in its final incarnation, was still a really good car, and a very pleasant place to be, we have had a number of them, as well, as XF's, and we have NEVER had a days worth of trouble with any of them.
