The Jaguar XE, Mazda CX-3 and Mazda CX-5 have been selected as the three finalists for the World Car Design of the Year. The winner will be announced at the 2016 New York Auto Show on March 24th.
Other categories will also have their winners announced at the New York Auto Show. These are the other categories and their finalists:
World Luxury Car of the Year: Audi Q7, BMW 7 Series and Volvo XC90.
Performance Car of the Year: Audi R8, Honda Civic Type R and Mercedes-AMG C63 Coupe.
Green Car of the Year: Chevy Volt, Toyota Mirai and Toyota Prius.
World Car of the Year: Audi A4, Mazda MX-5 Miata and Mercedes-Benz GLC
I did not see that coming and i really like the XE but don't think it should be that ranked that high in design. Alfa Romeo Giulia should have been it, not this.
I'm surprised that something like the AMG-GT didn't make the cut if the Jaguar XE did. I also think that the Q30 by Infiniti has a really nice design going on.
Infiniti is indeed nice, I find they are one of the only brand right now that has a good mixture of having good design and unique design, too much copy cat going on these days.
I do give them a lot of credit for their new design language. It's really tough to make a new and unique design language that can compete with the really well established Germans. Lincoln has been gradually finding itself. Cadillac is strong but it doesn't quite have the same feel as Infiniti. Infiniti feels more natural while Cadillac is so angular -- the design is more assertive instead of emergent.
Yeah it is design well done during these times when I think it can be challenging and that's something some brands struggle with is finding their identity in design, fortunately they have established that and come a longer way than other brands one being cadillac which I think still has some work to do.
