I was under the impression that the Jaguar XE would not have diesel engines on offer when it comes to the US, but new information has come out that says otherwise.

According to Jaguar, the XE will come to the US in 2016 as a 2017 model year vehicle with RWD, a 6-speed transmission and a four-cylinder diesel engine. The diesel engines from Jaguar are both 2.0-liter four-cylinder engines generating 163 hp and 380 Nm of torque or 180 hp and 430 Nm of torque.

Do you think that you will be picking up the diesel engine when you buy your XE?

I know I would pick up a diesel over a petrol engine XE.
With Jaguar doing this, do you think that other car makers will follow and introduce more diesels in this segment?
This is brilliance on their end, a true differentiator in segment. I'm glad they've decided to forego hybridization in the hunt for fuel economy.

Now the question is premium and what payback on the diesel looks like over petrol...

I doubt there will be many that will wait a year just to get the diesel but I am glad that they are bringing it over.

well if you want diesel then you will wait, and if you wont wait then you didnt really want a diesel all that much.

Besides, why does anyone have to wait, there will be plenty of new buyers coming online next year, as leases expire or things break...
