Jaguar Land Rover is adding a bunch of new features to its navigation that seem very state of the art, or even futuristic.

The new features include projecting a camera feed on the roof pillars to give you a 360 degree view of what's going on and eliminating your blind spots, and projecting a ghost car in front of you to make navigation easier.

The pillars would each be outfitted with a screen embedded under the pillar's surface. A live video feed would be displayed on each pillar. The system would be activated every time the car reaches an intersection or the driver indicates a change in movement by turning his head. The Head-Up display would also highlight other road users with an on-screen halo that moves across the car's virtual screen.

The ghost car system would project an image of a vehicle in front of the driver for them to follow. The idea is to make navigation easier by not having to look at a separate screen.

Check out the system in action in the video below.

I think that the "invisible" pillars are really cool. Its a great idea. I want to see it in real life to see how well it would actually work in the middle of driving, but it looks very promising.

Yes lets make navigation easier by having you chase and focus on a ghost while regular traffic continues to play out around you. Anyone else see this as slightly disingenuous, as in WORSE than what currently exists...

something that goes for other tech, yet using your phone while driving is a problem, funny how that works.
don't use your distraction, use our distraction!

I wonder if this will make the event of a SMIDSY less likely...? Some moto sites seem to be optimistically heralding such...

It is just a concept right now so I imagine there will be some legal arguments as to whether this technology is distracting and unsafe or if it makes driers more safe.
