Jaguar Land Rover is amping up to take on the luxury car market. In three years Andy Goss, global group sales operations director, says that Jaguar Land Rover's sales volume will rise to about half of Mercedes-Benz's sales.

Mercedes-Benz sold 1.5 million vehicles in 2013. That means that JLR is expecting to sell 750,000 vehicles per year by 2017. Goss says that most of the JLR growth will be coming from Land Rover.

The new Discovery line of vehicles along with the entry-luxury Defender are poised to boost sales. There is also the upcoming Jaguar XE (of course) and the X17 Concept.

These vehicles will all have to meet with success for Jaguar's predictions to come to fruition.

34 percent is A LOT to be down by, but considering what their current line up is like now and how competitive other luxury car makers are, it's tough for Jaguar, for now. And yes end of the year sales are probably helping them, but still, it all comes back to what they have to offer folks.

The XE should greatly help

I suspect that things will improve since they are releasing quite a few products in the next little while. Still, if I were an investor I would not be very comforted by a 34% drop in sales. Why do you think there was such a drop? Have the Germans been releasing lots of new products that are overshadowing Jaguar?

This thread is BEGGING for logic.

1) The way OP has written it is that JLG wants half of Mercedes 2013 volume, completely ignoring Mercedes own growth. This is a moving goal post which Jaguar is simply using for press traction. This deserves little merit.

2) JLG has just launched 2 new models yet to be on sale that compete for volume with its higher end products, XE and Discovery sport. There is your sales drop, pent up demand. Besides you think October 2014 has any bearing on Total 2017 sales..? LOL

The two new models will do well I'm sure, but there current lineup isn't exactly selling like crazy. I agree the Mercedes-Benz target thing is just to attract some press. I am not sure whether the "half sales volume" is based on projected Mercedes sales in 2017 or if it is half of what they are selling now.

And that's why I rather not focus on what they have currently since a good amount of car makers have released their next generation vehicles meanwhile jag is in the process of launching a 2nd and 3rd new product.
