England's Financial Times reported this morning that Jaguar Land Rover is prepared to bid for the Silverstone Circuit in Northamptonshire.
Silverstone has long been in financial hardship, notably caused by the ever escalating sanctioning fee charged for hosting Formula 1 events. JLR and parent company Tata could swoop in as saviours.
While easing the financial burden on Silverstone is certainly nice to hear, JLR is not a charity. Aside from the F1 funhouse, JLR would satisfy many of their current needs in one fell swoop.
In Silverstone they would get an iconically British venue located close to their Midlands home, which would be suitable for product development and product demonstration to consumers. Not to mention space for its Herritage Centre.
However before we get our hopes up too soon,
The British Racing Drivers' Club (current owners) say they have not received a formal offer from Jaguar yet.
