Land Rovers new SV Autobiography is nothing short of impressive.

Land Rover has pushed off-road luxury to new heights once again, with a new model that’s not just its highest priced vehicle ever, but the most expensive SUV on the market.

Retailing for $199,495 the new Range Rover SV Autobiography is the first SUV to even come close to the $200,000 mark and surpasses the Porsche Cayenne Turbo S ($157,300) by over $40,000.

That price is before options, though a look at the truck’s interior and it’s hard to imagine what else one could want.

Adding to the already luxurious cabin are custom items made of a textured aluminum, including the start-stop surround, rotary gear selector, pedals and seat adjuster knobs.

A custom key fob, finished in same textured aluminum, is also included.

The rest of the interior metal details are completed in a brushed aluminum used on both the front and rear center consoles.

Rear seat luxury hits private jet levels with fold-out work tables and even a “beverage chiller.” Leaving no surface untouched, even the floor mats are custom and made from a deep twist pile mohair.

Pushing the price past the $200,000 mark, the privileged few can opt for a sliding luggage floor in the trunk, made of veneer wood and aluminum.

Unique among Range Rovers, the SV Autobiography is available with a two-tone paint job, with a black top half and a choice of nine colors for the lower half. A custom black (or “Graphite Atlas”) and polished chrome grille adorns the front of the SUV with unique black and chrome lettering on the hood and tailgate.

More than just luxury, Land Rover has equipped its most expensive model with its most powerful engine.

Borrowed from the upcoming SVR performance model is a supercharged 5.0-liter V8 that pushes 550 hp and 502 lb-ft of torque. Thanks to a retuned ECU and supercharger there’s an increase of 40 hp and 41 lb-ft more than the standard supercharged model. It’s also got the sound to match thanks to a unique exhaust system, competed with four chrome tailpipes.

“Range Rover originally defined the luxury SUV segment,” said John Edwards, Managing Director of Jaguar Land Rover Special Operations, “and the new SVAutobiography, developed by Special Vehicle Operations, takes Range Rover to another level of comfort, craftsmanship and refinement.”

Set to make its world premiere at the New York Auto Show later this week alongside the new Range Rover Sport HST and the new Range Rover sport Td6 diesel, the Range Rover SV Autobiography will go on sale this Fall.

I just have to wonder if it's really worth the $200,000. 550 hp is an awful lot and I imagine that that contributes to the price. Other than that this thing better be full of so many features. I guess its just strange to think of a $200,000 car being an SUV instead of some kind of super car.

Consider the type of person that would buy one and it begins to make a lot of sense. A person at that level doesn't have many other options (for now), if that's the type of SUV you're looking for, that's all there is.

It is just pretty hard to imagine who these people are. They must be mega-wealthy hockey moms. People with a big family and lots of money. Or perhaps people who want to be driven around by a driver and want to make use of the "private jet level" of luxury in the back seat.

Will be interesting to see some of these luxury SUVs come out, and will also be interesting to see who exactly buys them.
