Love at first sight after the Geneva Car Show

Hi all,

Greetings from Geneva (am Dutch but have lived here for 20 yrs)! Decided to join this forum following a loving encounter with the XE at the Geneva Car Show last weekend.

Currently driving a June 2012 XF 3.0 V6 Diesel, which we love to death as a family and travel car. But .... it's warranty is coming to an end in June, it's got 58'000 km on the clock, the extended warranty service packs are relatively expensive (for what you get) .... and so the XE seems to come at the right time.

Sure, 40 cm shorter which translates into less back seat leg room, and less boot space. But given that we're a family of three, we may well survive this small sacrifice.

Last Sunday we popped over to the Car Show at the invitation of Jaguar to have a closer look at the XE, and it did not disappoint. Prior to the visit I had already configured "my" XE on the Jaguar website: XE Portfolio 2.0l i4 180 Diesel Turbocompressed (Automatic), Ammonite Grey, Black Pack, Light Oyster seats, and sun roof. And Lord and Behold, an exact same model was on show!! It's fate, it has to be ....:D

To make a short story short, simply a gorgeous car overall. Sure, it felt a little cramped and the interior and dashboard a little more cluttered compared to our XF. No air vents that magically open and close, but I think I can live with that .... plenty of other stuff to show off with ... ;)

Next step, make a decision .... to sell our beloved XF and go new and small, or stick it out for another year and consider the F-Pace? Leaning hard towards the XE at the moment .... Hopefull, this forum will give me some further insights to make the decision ...

Hey Marcus,

Welkom op het Forum!

Nice choice, matches mine just as your name.

Marc.
Great to have you here on the forum. When is the XE on sale in Switzerland? Are you guys still waiting or can you order one up any time you'd like?

Welcome!
Dank, Marc. Much appreciated!
Thanks, Winger! Orders can now be placed in Switzerland. If you order now, your XE should in theory be delivered in June/July according to my dealer. So the usual 3 to 4 months here.

Still doubting between the 2.0l 180hp diesel and the 2.5l 240hp petrol ... I know the former is more economic, but moving from a 3.0l V6 240hp to a 2.0l 4-pot 180hp ?? Will There be a noticable performance drop? Decisions, decision .....

You will probably feel that performance drop. Its a balance I suppose. Is performance or fuel economy more important to you?

Us in NA don't really have to worry about that choice since we won't be getting the diesel option. :crying:

Ideally, I'd be looking at a decent balance between performance and fuel economy. Actually, I have found our current XF to perform quite reasonably on the fuel front, given its engine size. Of course, much has to do with how you drive, and how hard you push your car, as always. Spending a day driving the CF in Dynamic and Sports mode sees the fuel indicator dropping fast ...

Perhaps the 2.5 240hp petrol will be the best choice ... Wish I could test the different engines well before June.
A lot of it does come down to how you treat the car and choose to drive it. You will get better efficiency from the petrol though. The petrol is also a bit better for the environment if that maters to you.
I love the XE and F-Pace as much as you do and also have a hard time trying to suggest either one.

However since I have always been into nimble and fun cars to zip around in, the XE is likely what i'll go with.
As much as crossovers are popular right now, I think that I prefer a sedan style vehicle instead. Funny how sedans are the more alternative choice now. Didn't see that coming just a few years ago.
all depends on your needs
some people have needs that stay within what a sedan offer but instead go for SUV's/Crossovers for the difference experience.
