Automatic or manual gearbox, what did you order?

As most production car reviews are raving about the automatic transmission, and find the manual basically "ok", let's start a discussion: manual or auto ? Is auto worth the extra price ? And why ? ...

(I've order a manual, but things can change :))

Hi fideba,

Great idea! I added a poll to your post.

I have ordered an automatic gearbox for my 180ps diesel. After driving years with manual gearboxes, the growing amount of traffic jams in The Netherlands urged me to choose automatic for my Jag.

I really like how the modern automatic gearboxes function, especially with the sports modes and the steer paddles. My feeling says that the automatic XE will improve my daily business drives and give me sometimes the tools to put a big smile on my face when I choose the sports mode or the manual control.

The raving reviews drive me crazy....I want to drive it NOW! :)

Supposedly manual for the US market is still being considered. Automobile says that it may be only available with the 4 pot though...

here’s no word yet on whether or not the previously announced gasoline four-cylinder Ingenium engine will be offered in the U.S., but we expect it to join the lineup later on. This turbo four-cylinder will likely produce around 240 hp in the XE, and may even pair with an available six-speed manual transmission.
