Jaguar's new 'Ingenium' family of modular turbocharged engines, which will include both diesel and gasoline variants, and will be configured for a wide range of applications.

The Jaguar XE will receive the AJ200D engine. Engineers have reduced internal friction by 17 percent compared to the current engine. This was done through roller bearings on cam and balancer shafts. Computer-controlled cooling enables quick warmups and faster cabin heat.

So the Ingenium engines are supposed to be lighter than its predecessors, saving up to 176 lbs depending on the specific configuration. The engine should contribute to the excellent fuel efficiency of the Jaguar XE, which could see a fuel efficiency rating as high as 55 mpg.

Jaguar Land Rover powertrain engineering director Ron Lee said,
"Being configurable and flexible are the two key strands of Ingenium's DNA because we have future-proofed our new engines from the outset... Ingenium will be able to accept new advances in fuel, turbocharging, emissions, performance and electrification technologies when they are ready and accessible to be deployed."
Eventually the Ingenium family of engines will be rolled out across the company's entire line of cars and SUVs.

Gm ruins everything.

Can't say I know that much about engines to be able to comment too much, but I'm sure the XE will come under pretty tough scrutiny since it will be the first chance for people to judge this engine. I'm guessing we should get some reviews in late August just before the XE debuts.

So is the low weight one of this new engine one of the main benefits? I guess the low weight in itself would help with fuel efficiency, so it is more than just weight, it affects other things as well.
