It's What?
Its a D segment rival for the venerable 3 series, the sanctimonious C-class and the lurid A4. Jaguar is not just aiming to be present and accounted for however, no, they want the cake and to eat it too. Jaguar is saying the XE will be the most advanced, efficient and refined luxury sports sedan in segment. If the recent developments over at Land Rover are to be believed I don't think Jaguar will have ANY issue with that.
Is the Technology Relevant?
Well the aluminium monocoque will take the virginity of the segment, the All Surface Progress Control system is an interesting evolution of the tradition al traction control system, at least on paper. Variable dampening from the new electric assist power steering system, sporty double wishbone front end ripped from the F-Type and Integral Link rears mean this is not your fathers Jaguar (unless it was the E-Type, which in that case please show yourself the door
How Pretty Will the XE Be?
Well its not Italian, so theres that. Expect typical British elegance and class, ostentatious you need not apply. Teasers and renders show us inspiration comes from its elder siblings XF and XJ with a dash F-Type thrown in for sex appeal.
Fast?
Fast enough. Jag has the new Ingenium engines coming, the range of 4 pots should cover every conceivable configuration, Natural, Turbo, Super and Diesel. Oh yea there will also be a Supercharged V6 from the F-Type as well as some 5.0L V8 scuttlebutt for the inevitable XER-S.
But Frugal with Fuel as Well?
Jag is not exactly saying specifically at the moment, however they did quip that the 2.0L Diesel will offer sub 100g/km CO2 emissions.
And I can Buy an XE When?
Well there is no definite pinpoint on WHEN you can buy one or drive one, but we do know XE will be making its global debut on Monday September 8th in London.
At What Cost?
Your guess is as good as mine, perhaps in September confirmation will rain down on us, until then we're left speculating based on rivals. In the UK the 3-Series starts from £23k and the C-Class at £26k, Jag would be wise to keep its most basic XE around the £25,000 mark. Similar situation for the US where the 3 begins at $32K and the C-class at $35K.
