Until Sept. 2015 I had a rare 2012 (only 50-odd sold in the UK that year) Mercedes C350 V6 AMG (petrol) 306bhp in Cavansite blue with black leather. It was really well specced; heated and air conditioned front seats, Harman Kardon 450W hi-fi, panoramic roof, intelligent Xenon lights, luxury 3 zone climate, front seats memory, COMAND online. I absolutely loved the car and had not a single issue with it. I don't "hang about" when driving but still regularly used to achieve 35mpg on a 85-90 mph run from a 3.5 litre V6 petrol engine which was amazing.
I also used to have an old BMW 328iA Convertible so my big decision in 2015 was whether to keep the old BMW as a second summer fun car and buy a Jaguar XE-S saloon or sell it, and the C350, and then run just one new soft top car.
After much agonising I (regretfully) decided to buy a Mercedes E400 AMG Line Cabriolet in Cavansite blue, blue roof and with natural beige (more tan really) and black interior. It's again pretty well specced: COMAND, memory seats, Harman Kardon, heated Airscarf, intelligent lights, active park assist with rear camera etc. However, the now turbo charged 3.5 litre V6 with 333bhp has loads of lag and doesn't sound half as good as the old naturally aspirated version in the C350. It also only gives 28-29 mpg. I've also had various issues like leaking boot, failed pre tensioning of seat belts, unequal inflation of front seat bolsters, poor DAB reception and terrible squeaking / squawking from the frameless side windows.
Even though the E400 is only six months old, I'm taking a hit on the value and ordered a new XE-S in British Racing Green with Jet leather due to be delivered late April / early May (from Barrett's in Canterbury, Kent, UK). The car will have 20" Propeller alloys, rear camera, Incontrol Touch Pro Meridian, 14 way electric seats, black window surrounds, electric folding mirrors, boot side net, warning triangle and first aid kit on top of the already comprehensive UK standard specification.
I think the British Racing Green paintwork with Propeller wheels will look great! Just wish I hadn't sold my lovely old BMW 328iA Convertible to use as a summers day fun car now!
