Does anyone know what this is? I believe it can be pried open but I hadn't tried it yet. Any ideas?

My guess would either be either a cupholder or ashtray. It is has to be pried open however then that might not be the case. Let us know when you figure out the secret compartment.

I was told this is just a blanking plate if you don't have heated rear seat switches.

Yup, it's pretty common to see blank spots in cars where buttons could go if certain features are installed. IT could look better int he XE, but it's not too bad.

Well they could've at least made it the same color as the rest of the compartment aha. It's the little details like this where Jaguar is still lacking. I know a bunch of their models still have visible metal in the trunk compartments.

Think it’s for the heated rear seats and/or the extra 12v socket

No, it’s for the optional extra 12v socket. Heated seat switches sit above this blank plate.
